You can keep the peace and face further extortion, or send in your fighters to eliminate them. Once in a while, a goblin camp will appear and threaten you with an ultimatum: give us resources or we'll attack. (a magic class is coming later), and a blacksmith to create weapons and armor. Here you'll want at least a few footmen, the basic military class, which can later be upgraded to archers and knights. In normal mode you can do all that, but will occasionally be attacked by zombies, goblins, orcs, kobolds, ogres, and more. If you meet daily food, comfort, and wealth goals, additional hearthlings join your community.
You can mine, lay roads, trade with traveling merchants, and more. You can design custom buildings or select pre-made designs from a list.
You can assign crafting/gathering classes to your hearthlings, like farmer, trapper, shepherd, carpenter, weaver, cook, and mason (many more classes are in progress, including animal trainer, engineer, geomancer, and magma smith).

In peaceful game mode you are free to make whatever kind of town/city you want.
